I agree with every point here Paul, but i think they have achieved some kind of goal - "The big idea" was to raise awareness, i think by doing this they certainly did that.
But, as you said it may just fall on def ears.

After this event has it raised awareness - yes i think so, have people been inspires to change their ways? - No probably not.
I know that after this, I'm still driving to work the same way, im still trying to recycle glass, cans and paper - and turn lights and devices off at night, but i was doing all this before this event.
I think the guilt trip option has a short shelf life, we need to be more creative about being green.
